A Checklist for Optimizing Your Table Saw
Whether you've just acquired a new or used saw, or you're looking to maximize the performance of your current one, a thorough inspection and tune-up can make a big difference. You can follow these steps below, listed in order, to ensure your saw is in top shape:
- Inspect the arbor and bearings:
- Reduce the gear backlash
- Ensure pulley alignment and belt condition
- Calibrate blade-angle stops
- Stabilize the base
- Level and align tables and throat plate
- Verify blade is perfectly aligned with the miter slot
- Align the splitter/riving knife with the blade
- Calibrate the rip fence and miter gauge
- Remove sawdust buildup and lubricate moving parts on a regular basis
- Maintain clean and friction-free tabletops
