Summary:
This video includes 5 expert table saw tips, which are 1. lining up the cut with the saw blade, 2. checking if the miter gauge is set to a perfect 90 degrees, 3. using wedges to prevent the kerf from closing, 4. cutting plastic with a plywood blade, and 5. using an inclinometer to set the bevel angle precisely.
Nicki Angler, the author of woodworking wisdom and a few other woodworking books, demonstrates these tips in the video.
Here are some additional details about the tips:
To line up the cut with the saw blade, you can simply put your square right on your mark and then move the wood until it just touches the tooth of the blade.
To check if the miter gauge is set to a perfect 90 degrees, you can use a scrap of wood and make an X in the middle of it. Then, cut through the X and put the scrap against the fence. If there is a gap, you need to move the miter gauge counterclockwise or clockwise until the gap disappears.
To prevent the kerf from closing, you can keep a few wedges handy and put them in the cut behind the blade.
To cut plastic with a plywood blade, you can turn the blade around so the teeth are facing backwards. This helps clear the guts so they don't get filled up with plastic shavings and begin to melt.
To set the bevel angle precisely, you can use an inclinometer. Just zero out the inclinometer first, then put it on the blade and adjust the blade angle until the inclinometer reads the desired angle.
